Hard to believe it's nearly the end of June. I've been signed-off
for a while, working on school (if you're thinking about online
schools, Sessions.edu
is a good one), and playing host to a few sets of guests.
I think I made a mistake, not going ahead and having the
air conditioner folks come over and install the big, hunking
Friederich air conditioner, that I lugged from the last apartment,
weeks ago. I am schvitzing up a storm tonight- simmering in
my own juices, so to speak...
There's so much to say, and so little, really. We lost John
Lee Hooker and Carroll O'Connor recently. I'm still grossed-out
that people are carrying out the death penalty in my name,
and we've done it twice in the past month. I guess I've got
death and mortality on my mind.
But, I also feel very much alive. I spent several days with
my adorable nearly-3-year-old nephew recently. There's no
better way to get back in touch with a sense of wonder. What
an amazing rollercoaster of emotions! Unabashed surprise and
glee in a tiny package. Then, too, there were the tantrums,
but we won't dwell on that. We went to the Central Park Zoo,
the Prospect Park Zoo, and the New York Aquarium over the
span of three days. There's one other thing that amazes me
about the parents of young children: they learn to understand
and translate virtually every sound that comes from the little
one.
OK, so scold me if you must. I'll be writing more frequently,
now.
