Responsible Journalism?
Students at the University of Illinois made a project out of deducing who "Deep
Throat" might be. Carl Bernstein, half of the famous Woodward and Bernstein
duo that broke the Watergate story, felt the program "should be discredited" and
the teacher who oversaw the project "should be spanked."
"The last thing students in a journalism class should be doing is trying
to find out who other reporters' sources are... They should be learning how to
protect sources," he said. The "offending" professor felt he was a bit old

Role Reversals
1) DALLAS - The former plaintiff known as "Jane Roe" in
the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized abortion sought to
have the case overturned in a motion filed Tuesday that asks the courts
to consider new evidence that
abortion hurts women.
Norma McCorvey, who joined the anti-abortion fight nearly 10 years ago and
says she regrets her role in Roe v. Wade, said the Supreme Court's decision
is no
longer valid because scientific and anecdotal evidence that has come to light
in the last 30 years has shown the negative effects of abortion.
2) REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday it has filed
15 lawsuits accusing the defendants of collectively flooding its systems and
customers with more
than 2 billion deceptive unsolicited e-mail messages. ...
Microsoft earlier this year had sought to weaken provisions of the
law by capping the amount that could be awarded to $25,000 a day.
The bill died, and Microsoft spokesman Sean Sundwall said the effort was
to protect service providers like Microsoft from people who sought to hold
the providers accountable for the spam.
But the hefty financial penalties was one of the reasons Microsoft
decided to sue under Washington's anti-spam law, said Tim Cranton,
Microsoft's senior corporate attorney.
Microsoft's suits follow similar ones filed by rival Internet service
providers America Online and EarthLink Inc. ...
