Farewell Dot
My Great-Aunt Dorothy-Mae was laid to rest in Detroit yesterday. Aunt ‘Dot’ was a sweet lady, Granny's baby sister, and the youngest of her family. Her health hadn't been good for the last few years. Having passed away in her early 70s, her life span was at least 20 years shorter than most of her siblings. Frail as she was when Granny died, she got on a train to New Orleans to be there for the funeral. She was buried the day after Coretta Scott King, the First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement. A bit younger than Ms. King, my aunt was more or less a contemporary of one of the most significant figures in Civil rights. It's strange to think that in some ways I know more about Ms. King's life, than I know about the life of my own family member.

Black History Month
is off to an interesting start, with the death of one of the last living symbols of the Movement on the same day as the appointment of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court. If there is any kind of awareness after death, Ms. King must have gotten a kick out of the send-off she got, which included the political gibing of 4 US presidents — a dignitary's funeral for someone who, at the time of her husband's death, was probably considered an enemy of the state. I imagine Bush the Son must have been pissed that Bill Clinton was clearly the favorite among the Presidents attending the ceremony.

Pwoerfl Baadd
“Do You have enough pwoer to provide your patrner high quality S-EX on St.Valentine day? Get a MONSTTER pwoer, nothing can bring your ererction down! Show your partner the PWOER of your LOEV and she will always remember You. Loev will ALWAYS be associated with YOU! Your order will be PRIVATE, nobody will know what You use. Follow this link and get SSPECIAL DISSCOOUNT for that period”

All that in the subject line of an e-mail I received two days ago. Bad spelling and verbosity.I heard that a couple of the e-mail giants are planning to start charging to send e-mail. Not so sure I'm liking the sound of that, but if it catches on, maybe it will be a disencentive for spammers.

I had hoped to post more today, but just couldn't get it together. There's a lot going on — news worth commenting on, and distractions in my life. I really do like writing though. Time to get back to more regular blogging. Yeah, you've read that before, right? Time and typing will tell...
